You are currently viewing Stage hijacked – climate activists disrupted speech by WKO President

Unexpected interruption on Tuesday in the Vienna Chamber of Commerce: climate activists stormed the stage during a press conference, interrupted WKO President Harald Mahrer and then took the floor themselves.

The Chamber of Commerce actually discussed the supply of heat from renewable energies. There was an interruption during the speech. Activist Lena Schilling and several other activists climbed onto the stage. Criticism followed of the “lobbyism of the WKO for fossil energies” and the “hypocritical greenwashing through events like this”. In addition, the activists of the WKO gave “substantial complicity” in Austria’s dependence on Russian gas and oil and called for a social energy and climate policy. Criticism was also directed at Mahrer. “Mr. Mahrer, you have a historical responsibility, and you have not taken it up to now,” was Schilling’s criticism. That has to change. Mahrer reacted, thanked him for speaking and explained: “We are for diversity of opinion.”
