The grand finale of the Triathlon World Championship series will take place in Abu Dhabi on the Persian Gulf on Sunday. The two currently best Austrians are right in the middle: Luis Knabl from Tyrol and Leon Pauger from Vorarlberg. Pauger had to get through a “difficult” situation beforehand, which he was able to “master” in the end thanks to the help of Knabl…

Eight millimeters. Army athlete Leon Pauger’s new “battle hairstyle” is so short for the grand finale of the World Cup series on Sunday in Abu Dhabi. “The idea came to me on Monday,” says the man from Bregenz. “Unfortunately, the razor shriveled while cutting. So I had to go shopping with short hair in the front and long hair in the back. That looked pretty stupid.” Fortunately, ÖTRV teammate Luis Knabl was able to finish the new Pauger style with a borrowed device…“Rank 40 doesn’t do me any good”Speaking of finishing: Leon dropped out in his last two races. “It was the same in Korea, and then I made a tactical mistake in Bermuda. A result around rank 40 or 50 brings me nothing. I’d rather get out and prepare for the next races,” explains Pauger, who last spent a week acclimatizing in Dubai. In Abu Dhabi, however, he definitely wants to finish again. “A fourth good result for the race for the Olympic qualification would be important,” admits the Ländle triathlete, for whom the race on the Persian Gulf will not be the last event of the season. California calls “Right after the race we’ll go back to the Ländle” , according to Pauger. “With Pascal Ackermann’s time trial bike in my luggage, I’ll fly from Zurich to Los Angeles on Monday.” A trip that had been planned for a long time – but is now “combined” with a race. “In Indian Wells I will tackle a middle-distance Ironman on December 4th,” reveals Leon, who celebrates his 24th birthday on this day and can thus prepare a present for himself.
