In the context of the confinement due to the covid-19 pandemic, a large number of fans went looking for treasures with metal detectors.

A huge treasure hidden more than 700 years ago was discovered last year in Scotland with the help of metal detectors. A team of experts is cataloging the 8,407 ancient silver coins found, whose value can amount to hundreds of thousands of pounds, according to Scottish Daily Express.

The coins have been marked ‘Dunscor Hoard’, after the Dumfriesshire village near which they were discovered.

The treasure was found during the covid-19 pandemic, as a large number of Scottish hobbyists took up metal detectors as a hobby.

For this reason, the volume of finds in the last two years has increased so much, reaching 200 per week, that the Scottish Treasures Unit required additional staff.

The latest hoard of coins discovered is considered to be the most important in at least 200 years and could be the largest in Scottish history.

It consists of both coins dating from the 13th and 14th centuries, mostly King Edward I and II pennies, as well as other pieces of silver from Britain and Europe.
