Sister Cristina Scuccia won the hearts of millions with her performance in the Italian edition of “The Voice”. After years in the convent, however, she decided to question her decisions and ultimately chose to return to secular life. What does the 34-year-old former nun do today?
In 2014, Sister Cristina delighted the judges of the Italian “The Voice” by performing a cover of Alicia Keys’ song “No One”. In one week, the performance has amassed over 90 million views on YouTube. The nun eventually won the second edition of the program, and after its completion she released her own album, which she promoted with a much calmer version of Madonna’s hit “Like A Virgin”.
The nun, who took her first religious vows in 2012, began to gain popularity around the world. In 2016, Sister Cristina Scuccia even visited Poland and sang for the pilgrims gathered at the Wrocław stadium on the occasion of World Youth Day.
“Faith Hasn’t Disappeared”
It turns out, however, that Cristina Scuccia decided to change her life path. Last Sunday, October 20, the former nun appeared on the Italian entertainment show “Verissimo” in a red costume, her hair loose and with a nose ring.
“If I look back, I look at my journey with a deep sense of gratitude” — said Scuccia on the show.
The fragment quoted by “Wanted in Rome” also reads that while such a major change was terrifying for the former nun, it was also “a sign of evolution”. “It’s easier to anchor yourself to what seems certain than to question your decisions” — said Scuccia, adding that in her opinion “you should only listen to your heart!”.
“Sister Cristina is in me” — a former nun from Sicily has already emphasized. “I had a wonderful journey, but also a complicated and difficult one. I believe even more in life and in God, faith has not disappeared. It was almost 15 years of religious life, the best years of my life” — Cristina Scuccia explained.
In an interview with the presenter of the program Silvia Toffanin, 34-year-old Cristina Scuccia revealed that she is currently working as a waitress in Spain, where she continues her dreams of a musical career.
