Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed an attack on Iraqi Kurdish opposition groups based in Iraqi Kurdistan.

“The training bases of anti-Iranian separatist terrorist groups, what remains of the barracks of mercenaries of world arrogance (United States and allies) were hit today [segunda-feira] morning by a new series of missile and drone attacks by the Revolutionary Guards ground force,” reads a statement issued in Tehran.

On the other hand, on Sunday, human rights groups accused the Iranian authorities of reinforcing military contingents in Kurdish regions where demonstrations against the Tehran regime have intensified since September.

The Iranian Armed Forces sent reinforcements to the city of Mahabad, in northwest Iran, said the Kurdish human rights group Hengaw, noting that shots were fired “in residential areas”.

The Hengaw group, based in Norway, spread through social networks images that, allegedly, show Iranian helicopters flying over Mahabad. The planes, according to Hengaw, were carrying members of the Revolutionary Guards.

Still according to the same Kurdish human rights group in exile, commercial establishments remained closed on Sunday as a demonstration of protest against repression.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has been the scene of the protest unleashed on the 16th of September, after the death of Mahasa Amini, a young Iranian Kurd arrested by the police for not respecting the dress codes imposed on women in Iran.

The first demonstrations broke out in the northwestern Kurdistan towns, in particular in Saghez, Amini’s hometown, but the protests spread to other towns.
