Pope Francis wanted to “be close” after the death of the leader of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo, Hebe de Bonafini, this past Sunday.

For the Argentine pope it was a “a search that led her to march weekly so that oblivion would not take over the streets and history and, the commitment to the other, would be the best word and antidote against the atrocities that were suffered”.

“In this, her last march, we accompany her with prayer asking the Lord to give her eternal rest and not allow all the good done to be lost; and, to you, comfort and accompany you to continue being the Mothers of Memory “Francis said.

It should be remembered that this Sunday, after the news of his death was known, the Archbishop of La Plata, Victor “Tucho” Fernandezone of the religious closest to the pope, revealed the confession that Hebe de Bonafini made to him a few hours earlier.

“I found her very well prepared. ‘I’m ready,’ she told me with a smile,” said Fernández, who also gave him “Francisco’s greeting”, since, he explained, “she said that she returned to faith after reconciling with him.”
