Emma Plasschaert has already become world champion twice, in 2018 and 2021, but has never won European gold. She took bronze in 2018 and 2019.

And Plasschaert had already announced before the European Championships in Hyères that she was not going for a result. The World Cup, where she took bronze, was her main goal, the European Championship was already a good test moment with a view to the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

Nevertheless, Plasschaert still had a view of the podium at the start of the final day with a 4th place. But the 29-year-old from Ostend finished 9th in the Gold Fleet in the last test. With that, she had to give up another position.

Plasschaert closes the competition with 55 points. That is 11 more than the Polish Agata Barwinska, who extended her European title. She beat the Swiss Maud Jayet (48 points) and the Dutch Marit Bouwmeester (50 points) with 44 points. The British Matilda Nicholls (52 points) was fourth.

Eline Verstraelen finished 60th after a nineteenth place in the final race of the Silver Fleet.

In the ILCA 7 (ex-Laser) William De Smet won two more places on the final day. He ends up at number 17 with 100 points. Wannes Van Laer dropped from 45 to 53. The Cypriot Pavlos Kontide took the European title (32 points) ahead of the Briton Michael Beckett (34 points) and the Finn Kaarle Tapper (50 points).
