Penn Badgley says she would ‘try to love’ if she met Joe Goldberg of you in real life

Based on the best-selling novels of Caroline Kepnes, You, has been one of the most popular series of Netflix thanks to the character of Joe Goldberg, interpreted by Penn Badgley, who has given much to talk about for being a psychopathic stalker who has committed terrible acts throughout his seasons. However, deep down, the actor thinks that all the character needs is a little love.

Badgley commented to ew that if one day he received the opportunity to cross paths with joe in real life, I would try to be a little empathetic with the character and show him what affection and love is.

“Really, at this point, and I think I’ve been clear about how much I detest all of his actions, so in that context I would actually try to love him. Because, the truth is, he never understood that. So he would ask Joe… I honestly feel like I would watch him for a long time.”

Nevertheless, Badgley he is aware that he knows Joe better than anyone and not everyone may know his insides. “Because of my relationship with him, I would try to love him,” he explained. “I’m not saying he deserves it. I’m not saying anyone else should do that. I’m saying I would try to love him. He needs that. He needs love. I… would hug him.”

Will the character change?

The official trailer for season 4 shows Joe Goldberg reintroducing himself to society under a new identity, and now acts as a teacher named Jonathan Moore in the UK where he will surely end up near a new love interest.

In the meantime, Penn Badgley considers that Joe will now be much more focused on his work and the public will be able to learn more about his mysterious past, since he will be completely alone in a new country and will have to start from scratch.

“Living in London has allowed me to bury the past, so to speak. Gone are the days of unrequited love and longing. This time I am focusing on academia and instruction while keeping my typical extracurricular activities strictly professional.”
