LASK had to wait more than two months, but on Sunday the people of Linz finally managed to win again in front of their home crowd.

The athletes defeated Wolfsberger AC 4:1 (game report >>>) and thus ended the four-game uninterrupted series in Pasching without a three-pointer. One man drew particular attention that Sunday: Robert Zulj.

The 30-year-old, who returned to Upper Austria from the United Arab Emirates in the summer, single-handedly put Linz on the road to victory with a flawless hat-trick within 13 minutes.

How does the player of the game feel after the game? “Very nice,” Zulj replies dryly in front of the “Sky” microphone after the game.

Zulj “adjusted Fußerl correctly today”

“When you see that we haven’t had a home win in two months, it’s really good to have won again here at home,” said Zulj, who scored all of his three goals from set pieces.

He opened the scoring with a wonderful direct free kick. “I mean, if the ball is half-left 25 meters in front of the goal, it’s clear that I’ll go there and try to score a goal. I’m all the happier that it’s going so well, of course,” the Upper Austrian commented on his first goal.

He scored goal number two after a corner, and after a short free kick he scored the third goal with a shot into the far corner. “Of course we know that Robert is an incredibly good player,” says LASK head coach Dietmar Kühbauer about his triple goal scorer. “It was not unimportant for us that he adjusted his foot correctly today.”

Trouble with Zulj: “You have to clean eleven times out of ten times!”

But Zulj doesn’t want to draw too much attention to himself: “It’s much more important that we won again, that we were very efficient in the first half.”

But not in every scene. After all, Zulj could have increased his goal tally by one or two more goals on Sunday. One action in particular is remembered: namely the one in which the offensive man stumbled the ball in front of the empty goal in a five-pointer.

An action that still annoys the attacker after three goals? “Yes, of course! Out of ten times you have to put eleven times in,” Zulj judges himself harshly. “It annoys me, of course, because every goal is important, every goal gives us confidence. That’s why I would have liked to have scored it.”

Especially with such actions you would see that Zulj is still missing one percent until he is “normal”. “I was away for a year. The level there (note: in the United Arab Emirates) was definitely not as high as in Austria. Nevertheless, I work hard week after week and try to get there where I want to see myself with minutes of play.”

Kühbauer’s jubilation tactic worked

LASK coach Dietmar Kühbauer also brought a few fewer percentages on Sunday when it came to celebrating the goals. He took goals one to three a bit stoically – all tactics, as the Burgenlander says.

“I thought to myself today, I’ll slow down a bit. I’ll do that soon,” says Kühbauer, who doesn’t want to deviate from the new formula for success.

The head coach was completely satisfied with his team after the game: “All in all it was a very successful performance by my team and it was very important because we haven’t clinched any wins in the last few weeks.”

That’s what Kühbauer wants against Rapid and Sturm

“You could see from the first minute that we really wanted to win the game.” Kühbauer would also like to see performances like the one on Sunday in the two remaining Bundesliga games this calendar year.

“It will also be important in the next game against Rapid and Sturm that we go into the game and say, ‘It will be very hard to beat us,'” said Kühbauer.
