Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid’s Italian coach, made a positive reading of the words of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois after the first defeat of the season, on Tuesday against Leipzig (3-1), and agreed that they must “be more aggressive” and be “concentrated” so as not to have any more setbacks.
“Thibaut made self-criticism, it doesn’t seem fierce to me, but it is true that we have to be more aggressive and focused. We have to do self-criticism, we have looked at what happened against Leipzig and we are going to try to correct it,” he said at a press conference.
Reviewing the match, Ancelotti does not believe that his players lacked attitude or that it was an excess of confidence for already being classified for the round of 16 of the Champions League.
“We have evaluated what has happened, we have seen the errors that we have had at the beginning, it has not been a lack of attitude, they were positioning errors from set pieces where the team is usually more forceful and effective. From there we have to think about getting what better in the four games until the break. It is an important moment of the season”, he analysed.
The lessons that he said they would draw after the defeat, the Italian coach focused on the attention at every moment of the matches, understanding with the motivational part and the difficulty of keeping it high in each appointment, playing every three days.
“You always have to be focused from the beginning. You have to think that it is like the last game of the season, not think that you have an advantage and prepare it thinking that it can give you a title. Playing every three days is more complicated to always have a very high motivation high,” he acknowledged.
