Russian director Kantemir Balagov, who was set to direct the pilot for HBO’s The Last of Us series, pulled out of the project about a year ago due to “creative differences,” The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Balagov on Twitter confirmedthat his episode will not be in the series.

The Last of Us TV series will be released in 2023. The first season will have 10 episodes, its shooting ended summer 2022. Actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey play the main roles in the film adaptation of the game.

Kantemir Balagov is a Russian director who gained wide popularity after the film “Dylda”, released in 2019. Russia nominated the film for an Oscar.

After the outbreak of the war, Balagov left Russia for the United States. By data The Hollywood Reporter, he is going to make a film about the relationship of a father and son from the community of emigrants from Kabardino-Balkaria in New Jersey. The film will be produced by Alexander Rodnyansky and the creator of the horror “Solstice” Ari Astaire.
