It was the performance that had probably been most eagerly awaited that evening. Almost two months after Matthias Reim made his “burnout problem”, as he called it, public, the hit star was back on stage.

The organizer “Semmel Concerts” pushed him into the line-up of his “Schlagernacht des Jahres” at very short notice. Lo and behold: Matthias Reim was back to his old self, at least on stage. Even if some fans didn’t really want to play along.

Matthias Reim makes his comeback in Oberhausen

But let’s start from the beginning. Schlager enthusiasts had to endure a long time. The hit night had already started shortly before 6 p.m. At 11.30 p.m. the man finally came, whose comeback was so eagerly awaited.

The 64-year-old came on stage to the sounds of Queen’s “We will rock you” and fire fanfares. Applause. cheers. However, the audience’s response was a little restrained. Compared to the decibel kings of the evening, Mickie Krause and Oli.P, the reaction was disappointing.

It may have been due to the fact that the hall had already emptied noticeably. After all, the first had already reached the “Rudolf-Weber-Arena” in Oberhausen shortly before 4 p.m. In any case, it wasn’t due to rhyme. The comeback joy was visibly written on the face of the hit star. “Without you, everything is so empty, so boring, so dull, and I’m glad I’m here,” he adapted his song “4:30pm” appropriately for Oberhausen. And externally, the break seemed to have done the new father visibly good. “I had a little break and it was necessary. It’s all good,” said the singer.

Reim seemed fit, sang a number of his hits like “You are my luck”, “I dreamed of you” or “Tattoo” and also threw in a duet with his son Julian for the Cat Stevens classic “Father and Son”. And of course “Damn, I love you” couldn’t be missing either. Then it got really loud again. All’s well that ends well. Or as Matthias Reim put it so beautifully: “You guys are awesome, thank you very much. I never want to lose you.”
