Here you rub your eyes…

Christmas is almost two months away, the weather in October resembles late summer. Sun, t-shirt weather, mild evenings – and suddenly there is a Christmas tree in Dortmund!

On Friday (October 28th) a huge Christmas tree was put up on the Hansaplatz in Dortmund. The giant fir is over 40 meters high, making it the tallest Christmas tree in the world.

However, the construction will take some time, but local residents cannot believe their eyes when they admire the fir tree at a summer temperature of 24 degrees. On November 11, the big angel is to be placed on the top of the tree, says Christmas Town spokesman Fabio Knust to “Ruhr Nachrichten”.

After that, the last spruces have to be attached. The Christmas market in Dortmund starts on November 17th, but the giant fir tree will probably not be open by then. Traditionally, it always takes place one day after the Sunday of the Dead (November 21).

Around 48,000 LED lights will then be switched on in the early evening, and they will remain on daily from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. until the end of December. At night the lighting is switched off.
