Dog, cat or rabbit – in Germany almost every second person has a pet and it needs to be taken care of. Some pet owners go to Aldi for food or bedding. But the products there are becoming increasingly scarce.

According to Aldi, there are currently delivery bottlenecks for cat food and cat litter in particular. Empty shelves in branches are no longer a rarity, and customers are starting to worry.

Aldi: Pet products are becoming scarcer

Treats, food, litter – if you don’t want to go to a pet store, you buy your products from discounters like Aldi. After all, shopping for your own needs and the needs of your beloved four-legged friend can be processed there at the same time. It’s just stupid when you suddenly find yourself standing in front of empty shelves.

Images of empty shelves are already appearing online, and customers are expressing concern: “What’s going on with pet food at the moment? Neither Kaufland nor Globus have their own brands. We got a few more cans from Lidl, but the last ones were there,” wrote a woman on Twitter.

A man experienced the same thing when he was looking for cat food. He quickly contacted Aldi Süd on Facebook and got an answer. There are currently delivery bottlenecks for cat food. The discounter could not say when these will be fixed.

Aldi in contact with suppliers

Aldi Süd explained to “Ruhr24”: “Due to the current situation, individual items may still be out of stock for a short time.” He is constantly in contact with suppliers and is looking for solutions. The company did not give any details about the cat food.

According to reports in the “Lebensmittelzeitung”, pet food is generally scarce. There are always delivery problems. Recently there was a great shortage of cat litter.

Pet food is becoming scarcer and more expensive

Aldi is not the only supermarket that has been affected. At Rewe and Edeka, the price dispute with the company Mars is currently preventing animal brands such as Whiskas, Frolic, Cesar, Perfect Fit, Kitekat and Sheba from being delivered.
