Los Tuzos already have a cup and a half in the 2022 Opening, well in the first leg of the Liga MX final they crushed Toluca and it seems that they totally knocked him out.
Although, all is not lost for Toluca, it does seem that the 5-1 in the first leg is quite a heavy slab on the back of the choriceros -that not even Cardozo himself could trace-.
So, since Pachuca already did a great job in winning the championship in Apertura 2022, It is a good time to remember the last Pachuca team that managed to lift the title.
It was almost six years ago (Opening 2016) and although it seems that many things have not changed, the truth is that the reality is totally different, because yes the things that are experienced in Liga MX are very different.
Some of that squad have already been champions in other teams, some others made the leap to the Old Continent and others have already retired to take roles in the coaching staff of different teams.
The last Liga MX champions with Pachuca
Óscar ‘Rabbit’ Pérez, captain of that Pachuca
This list begins with a true legend of Mexican soccer, who after winning the championship against Rayados, he retired and became a goalkeeping coach at Cruz Azul.
He was part of the coaching staff that managed to break the streak without a title in Cruz Azulsomething he could not do as a player and currently remains in that position.
Stephan Medina
He arrived at Rayados, but in Monterrey he was not convincing and they sent him on loan to Pachuca. He charged them with the most expensive, because was crowned champion of Clausura 2016 against the team that did not want it.
After the good time in Tuzos, Stefan Medina returned to Rayados and has become an immovable member of the Monterrey squad and continued adding titles with the ‘Pandilla’.
Omar Gonzalez
One of the strongest defenders who came to Liga MX from MLS, with Pachuca he formed a strong defense, same that became more solid to win the title.
He spent a few more years with the Tuzos and in 2019 he returned to MLS with Toronto and later signed for New England Revolution, his last team as a professional.
Oscar Murillo
He is one of the few that survive in the current Pachuca squad from the one that won the title in 2016, he is a club legend and could add a second championship with the team if they are crowned in the Opening 2022.
Emmanuel Garcia
Known as ‘Manny’, he was one of the important men for Pachuca to win the title in 2016, but his name is not as well known as it should be.
Jorge ‘Burrito’ Hernández, the heart of Pachuca
Few men in the history of Pachuca have defended the colors with the love and determination with which Jorge Hernández has done so. He is a history of the club and one of the best of that campus.
After almost a life with Tuzos, left Pachuca to go to Gallosin his last moments in Liga MX.
Erick Gutiérrez, one of the jewels of Tuzos
He had the potential to go further and he did, with Pachuca he already shone in midfield and his performances caught the attention of Europe and after a few more tournaments, they took him away.
He went to PSV, where he had a hard time finding his place, but his quality made it happen in one of the important midfielders for the Dutch clubwhere he has added several championships.
Jonathan Urretaviscaya
Rayados noticed him because basically he was one of the key pieces for Pachuca to win the Liga MX final. After the Tuzos, went to Monterrey and did not raffle.
He returned to his country with Peñarol and not much happened, he went to Rentistas and neither did he. He is currently in the River Plate of Uruguaywhere is one of the highest figures.
Rudolph Pizarro
Another of the jewels in the crown of Pachuca, who had the potential to go to Europe and break it with desire, but, bad management in his career made him make bad decisions.
In Chivas he was champion, in Rayados too and he was even a franchise player for David Beckham’s Inter Miami, but his career has faded. He is currently in Rayados, with an uncertain future.
Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano, who has done the best after Pachuca
The Pachuca quarry is one of the best and by far, Chucky Lozano shows. After Tuzos, he went to shine with PSV and won several championships.
After his time in the Netherlands, he went directly to Napoli, where he currently has high chances of becoming champion of Serie A.
Franco Jara
One of the most prolific strikers in recent years in Liga MX and Pachuca left in 2020, leaving the 2016 Apertura title. He went to the MLS, where he still plays for FC Dallas.
Victor Guzman
He came on as a change and gave Pachuca the title, He was the hero of that night at the Rayados stadium. He continued to show an excellent level with the Tuzos and was signed by Chivas.
He did not debut with the Flock due to doping issues, but returned after serving his sanction and Currently he continues with Pachuca, with the possibility of giving him a new title.
