The M5-RFP Malikura, Koniba Sidibé branch of the M5-RFP composed of Mrs. Sy Kadiatou Sow, Modibo Sidibé, Me Mohamed Aly Bathily, Cheick Oumar Cissoko among others, held a press conference yesterday at the Maison de la Presse. The executive board spoke out on the key questions of the political news of the Transition.

About the Ivorian soldiers in Mali, M5-RFP Malikura said that this question is at the origin of a tension in the sub-region which is good neither for Mali in a situation of great fragility, nor for the Coast d’Ivoire, nor for the sub-region. A sub-region already facing a serious security and economic crisis, they say.

According to them, any hope of getting out of this crisis depends on close collaboration and strong solidarity between the leaders of these countries. “The CS M5-RFP MK strongly wishes the release of the Ivorian soldiers as soon as possible in order to calm things down. This concern for appeasement is a strong demand from the Malian populations who see in the RCI a brother country where 4 million Malians live and a major economic partner of Mali.they said. “This is a request publicly expressed by many actors in Mali and the sub-region”, consider the members of the strategic committee.

After the Ivorian soldiers, M5 officials gave their point of view on the tense situation between the Djoliba-TV news channel and the High Authority for Communication (HAC). According to them, threats weigh more and more on the freedom of opinion and expression. Serious threats (up to death threats) regularly made on social networks and in the press against authors of critical opinions on the governance of the country without any reaction from the courts.

They claimed that press freedom was threatened by HAC’s recent reaction to an editorial by journalist Mohamed Halidou Attaher. For them, this editorial did not contain any reprehensible breach. They concluded by inviting justice to a dissuasive reaction of justice against the authors of these threats on social networks and the HAC to do the same by an effective regulation of the media without infringing on the freedom of the press.
