Patrushev apologizes for statements made by his deputy about the Hasidim

Deputy Secretary of the National Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev apologized on Friday for an article by one of his associates that used the Hasidic current of ultra-Orthodox Judaism as an example of one of the religious sects active in Ukraine.

The Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, has addressed the readers of the weekly Argumenty i Facty apologized for the statements made by his colleague Aleksei Pavlov, who described the Jewish movement Chabad Lubavitch as a “sect” in an article on the religious situation in Ukraine.

wrote Patrushev, whose words on Friday on the AiF– website to be quoted. He added that a disciplinary meeting had been held with the author of the article.

In the article, Pavlov promoted what he called the “de-Satanization” of Ukraine, which he said the Kiev regime had transformed into a “totalitarian hypersect” based on radical nationalism and neo-paganism.

Hasidism is a modern religious-mystical trend and part of ultra-Orthodox Judaism. It began after the pogroms against Jews during the Khmelnitsky Uprising in 1648, which affected over 700 Jewish communities in Eastern Europe. Within a century Hasidism spread through the Jewish communities of Poland-Lithuania and Austria-Hungary. Every year for the Jewish New Year, thousands of Hasids gather in Uman, Ukraine, since spending the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah at the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav, great-grandson of the founder of Hasidism Baal Shem Tov and founder of his own Hasidic school, is considered auspicious is applicable.
