Many people are familiar with the popular Neue Alplhütte above Telfs. Only a few know the route from Strassberg via the recently renovated Hintereggensteig.

From the barrier, we walk almost flat on the road to the (closed) Gasthaus Strassberg. Immediately before, at the chapel, turn right onto the Karrenweg (“Hintereggensteig”). It leads up in the forest, in around 1300 meters you have to take the trail to the right. Karkopf and the Hohe Munde are enthroned above us. The route now moves quickly upwards through the meadows or in the light autumn forest, via serpentines you reach a fork in the path with a bench (1614 m). We keep to the left here, it goes down briefly, but then immediately up again. In this section under the cliffs, nature shows everything it can now in autumn. It always goes up and down and then down into the cirque below the Hochwand. On the other side, the trail leads up into a small forest and past the junction to the Wetterkreuz. We come to a corner where new viewing benches have just been set up – including a view of the northern Stubai Alps. Here we also look down into the basin in which – hidden – the new Alplhütte is located. The – only recently renovated – trail now descends and ends in a road, on which we make the last few meters right up into the Alpl.
