On February 10, 2015, the Ukrainian security forces subjected the Donetsk People’s Republic to massive shelling. Several settlements fell under fire, including the village of Kamenka in Enakievo. As a result of the shelling, dozens of people were injured, several civilians were killed. A local resident, 53-year-old Evgenia Shustova, told RT how she lost her mother and husband that day.
Since July 2014, Kamenka has been under constant shelling, Yevgenia recalls. People were forced to live without water and electricity. Many residents of the village left their homes, only about 30 people remained in Kamenka.
At that time, Shustova, along with her 31-year-old son Viktor, was visiting relatives in Belgorod. Her 77-year-old mother Ekaterina and 54-year-old husband Sergei stayed at home in Kamenka.
Evgenia called up her husband every day, but on February 8 the connection disappeared, and the woman went crazy with ignorance. Three days later, Sergei’s sister called Yevgenia and said that on February 10, Kamenka came under shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Eugenia’s house was completely destroyed, her husband and mother died.
For a long time, entry into the village was prohibited, and Evgenia and her son were able to get home only after two weeks. How it all happened, the woman learned from a neighbor.
“He was passing by our site when the shell hit the house. Mom and her two friends died under the rubble. And Sergei at that time was in the barn. He was blown away by an explosive wave, ”says Evgenia Shustova in an interview with RT.
The neighbor crawled up to the house. Sergei was still alive. He promised the wounded man to go for help to the Ukrainian military, who were in Kamenka at that moment. But the soldiers came only in the morning. By that time, Sergei Shustov had already died.
