By chance, a police patrol in Eberndorf (Carinthia) discovered an apartment fire on Friday afternoon. The two police officers rescued three elderly people from the completely smoky apartment. The “Krone” spoke to the two rescuers.
It is still unclear why the fire broke out on the first floor of the house in Eberndorf. What is certain, however, is that the three residents owe their lives to attentive police officers. “We were just on patrol and then we noticed unusual smoke coming from the house,” says one of the lifeguards in an interview with “Krone”. The two officers immediately stopped and looked. They quickly realized that there was imminent danger. Helpless siblings “We saw a completely helpless gentleman standing in the window,” the officers describe. The two police officers finally managed to get into the house. “We then rescued the woman and the man from the completely smoke-filled apartment. We even had to carry the man out because he was unsteady on his feet,” say the police officers. It was a pair of siblings (72 and 66). However, the rescued stated that their 92-year-old mother, who was unable to walk, was also on the ground floor. “Again, the police officers entered the heavily smoke-filled building and rescued the mother,” said the police. A total of five fire brigades responded and fought the fire. “Thanks to the rapid intervention of the fire brigades in Eberndorf, Kühnsdorf, Gablern, Peratschitzen and Völkermarkt with a total of 89 men, the fire in the kitchen on the upper floor could be extinguished and the fire prevented from spreading from the kitchen to the entire upper floor,” said Eberndorf police officer. The 71-year-old suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation and was taken to the Klagenfurt Clinic together with his sister. The mother was unharmed and stayed with relatives because the house is uninhabitable.
