That’s it : Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is officially out today on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. the Multiplayer is now available and gradually unlocked until 6:00 p.m. depending on consoles and countries, after the campaign has been made playable in Early Access for pre-orders from October 20.

The players concerned have for many received their physical copy, and they were thus able to discover a funny surprise. The CD supplied with the version playstation Where Xbox contains only… 72.23 MB of data. Yes, it only serves as an activation key and requires downloading the entire experience data to be launched. And if you want to install the campaign, the Multiplayer and their updates, it is necessary at this time to download no less than 150 GB of data… And all this without counting Warzone 2.0, and of course the ton of patches that are coming. The weight of the installation is less (131 GB on Xbox61 GB on PS5 and more than 100 GB on PS5 according to stealthoptional), but as with previous episodes, you will have to make room on your consoles.

Eurogamer, which relays and confirms this information, explains that this decision is detrimental for players with low Internet speed, who will take time to be able to start a game, and asks big questions about the interest of physical editions. If these copies no longer even allow the game to be launched without the files hosted on the Playstation Store and the Microsoft Store, which could end up disappearing in the distant future, the game would eventually become unplayable. And apart from allowing buyers to resell their copy, the CD and its case have little interest and cause expenditure of money and energy which may seem unnecessary. Are we really approaching the all-digital era in video games?

If you still want a physical copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IIyou can get it from €60.99 on Amazon.co.uk.
