A US website falsely reported on Wednesday that US rocker Jerry Lewis had died. The obituary was published because it had been taken in by a scam, the portal soon admitted.
Tabloid website TMZ took down the headline and apologized: “We have received confirmation that Jerry Lee Lewis is in Memphis and alive. We got in touch today with someone claiming to be Lewis’ spokesman. He claimed that the rocker left us. But that turned out to be wrong!” The fact that many people immediately believed the report was because the 87-year-old had had to deal with health problems in recent months. In his latest Facebook post on Oct. 19, the “Great Balls Of Fire” singer is in bed looking very frail. In the photo, longtime friend Kris Kristofferson presents him with the trophy for being the newest inductee of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Lewis was unable to accept it himself because he was weakened by the flu. He said: “Unfortunately, I’m sick in bed. I tried everything to build up the strength to pick myself up. I’m so sorry I didn’t make it. Thank you for all the love and support of the country music industry. And I thank God that I was still able to experience this honor – because I’m still here!”
