Several countries demand that a concrete plan be drawn up in writing before voting on the resolution in the UN Security Council.

Washington has been unable to persuade any ally to participate in an eventual international military intervention in violence-torn Haiti, reports The Miami Herald, referring to sources familiar with the situation.

Officials in the Biden Administration are debating whether the US resolution circulated to members of the UN Security Council should be revoked if no country steps forward and offers no troops in the coming days. In the meantime, Washington has also not committed to providing its own forces.which has aroused frustration among its partners, writes the newspaper.

In addition, several countries have demanded that a concrete plan be drawn up in writing before voting on the resolution.

At the moment, the proposal has not found support in the world. In particular, France ruled out the possibility of contributing troops, Canada was repeatedly reluctant to contribute ground forces, and Brazil also expressed skepticism. For their part, Russia and China expressed concern about the deployment of foreign forces in Haiti.

“There has been no progress in getting volunteer partners,” said one of the informants, who confirmed that “no one is taking a step forward.”

The country’s political and social climate has suffered a serious deterioration from the murder of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021. Conditions have become especially difficult in recent months, as hundreds of criminal gangs have taken control of the capital, Port-au-Prince, and blockaded the country’s fuel terminals.

Due to severe food and water shortages, the national economy got paralyzed and hospitals were forced to close amid a resurgence of cholera.

These turbulences led to a sharp increase in prices and a resurgence of violence in the streets. The situation sparked weeks of massive protests by citizens demanding the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry.
