Helmut Hareter has been the head of the community in Breitenbrunn since 2017, and his brother Heinrich has been the elected first man in Weiden am See since Sunday. Both are social democrats.
The younger brother – Helmut – is in his second term as mayor. Heinrich prevailed in the run-off election and is now taking office for the first time. When asked why they both got involved in politics, they laugh. “We have a heavy family background,” says Heinrich. Helmut puts it this way: “We grew up in a political family.” “We just grew up red,” the two also reveal why they are with the SPÖ and why they are also otherwise socially committed. Both of them have the same incentive to run for mayor: They want to work for the people and make a difference in their communities. Helping quickly and close to the people Heinrich Hareter is particularly happy that he now has time for his new job. “I’m retired and now I can really dedicate myself to Weiden am See. Above all, something should be done in the village for the children and young people.” For Helmut, it is particularly nice as mayor – and chairman of the social association of Breitenbrunn – to be able to help quickly and close to the people. “You can make a difference in our office. That’s great,” he reveals.
