The European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs argues that Armenia’s “long-standing orientation” towards Russia and its allies in the CSTO was not enough to ensure security in the region. RT got acquainted with the draft resolution.
The document notes that the situation in Ukraine “affects the South Caucasus and further complicates the security situation in the region.”
In this regard, the EP committee believes that Armenia should reconsider the vector of foreign policy in the field of security.
“The European Parliament … calls on Armenia to consider diversifying its security partnerships, as its long-standing focus on Russia and its allies in the Collective Security Treaty Organization has proven insufficient,” the draft resolution says.
The European Parliament also noted that the territorial integrity of Armenia must be fully respected, and stressed “the EU’s readiness to participate more actively in the settlement of protracted conflicts in the region.”
Earlier, the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs condemned the “participation of Russia” in conflicts on the territory of the states that are part of the EU’s Eastern Partnership program.
