One of the topics of the day yesterday was the intrusive advertising that Apple is beginning to introduce in the App Store. With iOS 16.1, your app store woke up to the top of download recommendations, integrated advertising in almost all sections of the App Store and, in some cases, quite controversial. It was the case of plus Y more cases of advertising casinos in tokens of Apps to recover from addictions, payment apps in games for children, and other practices that did not fit too much with Apple’s philosophy.

After fierce criticism on social networks, Apple has had to put a gear less and, at least temporarily, pausing ads “related to gaming and certain other categories” on Apple Store product pages. It is not known what changes are being made, but it seems that the complaints have had a quick effect.

Apple prepares changes after criticism

Social networks like Twitter yesterday became a battlefield against Apple. Small and large developers complained about the product pages (the tabs of the apps), in which suggestions (ads) of applications related to sports betting, casinos and other games of chance appeared. In some cases, they even appeared in apps that tried to help overcome addictions.

Apple allowed advertisers to show their ads in categories other than those of the app they wanted to promote, so it was possible to have ads about gambling and similar categories in apps that had nothing to do with it. While it was clear that Apple wants to substantially increase its Services revenue, the noise from social media seems to have caught on.

They confirm from MacRumors that Apple has issued a statement stating that They have paused this type of ads in its application store, although it is not known until when or the changes that will be made. More conflicting categories, such as gambling, can be modified in order to be promoted in the tabs of other unrelated applications.

Be that as it may, and come the changes that come, App Store will have more advertising. Apple wants to increase its income from it, and its application store will be one of the main points to achieve it.
