Audi launches a special edition of the RS 3 Performance Edition, the sportiest compact model of the German firm, which will be limited to 300 units worldwide. This special edition features engine improvements, as well as new design elements and equipment.
Marketing will begin before the end of the year and the Volkswagen group brand estimates that the arrival of the first units will be in early 2023. Although the model will be available as Sedan and Sportback, in Spain it will only be marketed in this last body.
The RS 3 Performance Edition is the most powerful and fastest RS 3 to date, reaching a top speed of 300 km/h, that is, 10 km/h more than the standard version equipped with the RS Dynamic Plus package. In addition, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
The model is equipped with the turbocharged five-cylinder engine that offers a power of 407 horsepowerat a speed 100 rpm higher, between 5,000 and 7,000 rpm, and is associated with the quattro drive system with the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.
On the other hand, the variable control of the exhaust system butterflies has been modified for the edition. Thus, in the Dynamic, RS Performance and RS Torque Rear modes of the Audi Drive Select system, the throttles open more when the car is stationary.
Damping improvements
The RS 3 Performance Edition adds as standard equipment RS sports suspension with adaptive damper control, which is adjusted to the road conditions, the driving situation and the mode selected in Audi Drive Select. In addition, both compression firmness and rebound have been increased compared to the previous generation.
The German sports car, with the RS Torque Splitter, uses a technology with two electronically controlled multi-disc clutcheswhich actively distribute the engine torque between the rear wheels in a fully variable way.
In RS Torque Rear mode, all the torque reaching the rear axle is transmitted intermittently to the wheel on the outside of the curve, while in RS Performance mode, the system distributes the torque between the rear wheels in such a way. so that an almost neutral dynamic behavior is achieved.
Greater equipment and exclusivity
This special edition features the RS sports exhaust system with trims, Audi rings and RS 3 badging at the front and rear in black. It also equips standard Matrix LED headlights with blacked-out bezels and LED taillights with dynamic turn signals.
When unlocking the vehicle, the digital daytime running light, made up of 15 LED segments, displays a “checkered flag” on the passenger side and a “3-0-0” on the driver’s side, referring to the limited number of units and at maximum speed, while when locking the car the letters “RS-3” appear. Also, opening the front doors projects “#RS performance” on the floor.
The RS 3 Performance Edition is fitted with Pirelli P Zero “Trofeo R” semi-slick high-performance tires as standard, with 19-inch cast aluminum wheels specific to this version, with a ten-crossed-spoke design, finished in matt gray and the RS logo.
The interior, for the first time, is equipped as standard with ‘bucket’ seats, upholstered in Dinamica microfiber, combined with pearled Nappa leather on the side bolsters. The black opening under the headrest features a large RS badge. It also includes a decorative carbon insert on the passenger side with decorative “1 of 300” badging.
