Italian far-right leader Giorgia Melonishowed his support for the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in the context of the war with Russia. The coalition of the future prime minister prevailed last Sunday in the legislative elections of Italy with more than 42% of the votes.

The Ukrainian president was the one who first addressed the leader of the post-fascist party Brothers from Italy to congratulate her on the result in the elections. «Congratulations to Giorgia Meloni and her party for the victory in the elections. We appreciate Italy’s continued support for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression. We count on a fruitful collaboration with the new Italian government », she expressed, she replied NA.

Immediately afterwards, Meloni ratified his support for the Ukrainian people in the midst of the armed conflict. “Dear Volodimir Zelensky, you know that you can count on our loyal support for the cause of the freedom of the Ukrainian people. Stay strong and keep your faith strong!” he replied.

Previously, Meloni had taken a position: to commit to supporting Western policy on Ukraine and not to implement actions that could risk local finances. Contrary to former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi who expressed his support for his “friend” Vladimir Putin.

His coalition government, Italy’s 68th since 1946, is unlikely to be installed before the end of October and Prime Minister mario draghi remains at the head of an interim administration for now. Although there is talk of stability, Meloni’s alliance is divided on some very sensitive issues that could be difficult to reconcile once in government.
