The coach had fallen down a slope near Bad Mittendorf with a total of 32 occupants and had rolled over, as the Styrian State Police Headquarters announced at the request of the Austria Press Agency (APA).

The salvage work began during the night, it is said. According to the police, the coach was on its way from the Styrian district of Hartberg-Fürstenfeld to Grundlsee.

For reasons that are still unclear, the bus then got onto an unpaved path and then veered off it. The vehicle then crashed into a high embankment and rolled over once.

The bus then came to a standstill right next to a pond. The inmates were all able to free themselves. Fortunately, no one was trapped, according to the fire department.

There were still two seriously injured people who were flown to the hospitals in St. Pölten and Salzburg. Two other seriously injured people were taken to the hospitals in Bad Ischl and Rottenmann by the ambulance. 20 slightly injured were taken to the Schladming and Bad Aussee clinics, among others.

In addition, eight uninjured bus passengers were accommodated in the armory of the Kainisch volunteer fire brigade and then transported to their accommodation. The slightly injured were able to leave the hospital after the examination and were taken back to their quarters, the fire brigade continued. In addition to numerous forces, the Red Cross, the fire brigade, the police and two night helicopters were also deployed.
