Lives in Umeå, born and raised in Kiruna.
Former professional soldier with the hunter regiment K3 and the special unit SOG. Has, among other things, served in Afghanistan. Left the military in 2018 when she had a child and works today as a lecturer.
Current as the new presenter of “Robinson” and in an upcoming season of “Elite force secrets”.
The new season of “Robinson” will be the twenty-second in a row. It is the first for Petra Malm, which promises conflicts, strong personalities and complicated group dynamics.
— The viewers will get to see incredibly strong characters. Of course, there have been relationships that haven’t gone so well. Some people don’t get along, but in the end, everyone is there for the same thing. They ponder life and existential questions while living on the brink of starvation and having to perform. There will be a lot of tears and love, she says.
New role
If there will be real love between some of the participants, the new presenter does not want to reveal. But there will be a lot of drama overall.
— When they are so exposed and hungry, the facades crack. You get into deep things quite quickly, you’re completely emaciated, tired and sleep badly, so then you can’t imagine.
She is one of four elite soldiers who guide the participants through challenges in “Secrets of the Elite Force”. Nevertheless, the role in “Robinson” as the one who holds all the strings was new and above, says Petra Malm.
— I have followed “Robinson” ever since it began and I really remember the first episodes in 1997. It is something completely different to sit on the TV sofa compared to being there. I would probably almost have been more comfortable as a participant than as a presenter.
TT: Why do you think so?
— I’m used to being independent and fending for myself in whatever environment I’m in. Now I went with the production company, which is extremely experienced, and I just followed along. There I become this good soldier who just settles into the ranks and completely trusts their expertise. After all, everyone has their roles and here I was the presenter, which was new for me. I was so well taken care of that it was almost annoying at times.
“Social Genius”
Soon, Petra Malm is leaving to record another season of “Secrets of the Elite”. The differences between the two programs lie in the physical challenges.
— Before “Secrets of the Elite Force”, the participants have been able to prepare. You have trained hard to be part of it and you know that it is a very physical competition. You can come to “Robinson” and be a social genius and still get far. There are so many other things you can be good at, in the “Elite Force” you need to be fit. They are two very different programs.
TT: Have you ever come close to applying to “Robinson” yourself?
– No. I’ve survived that way in several different climates, but I didn’t want to be filmed. However, I felt that I have a lot of experience that I could help the participants with. They’re the ones who do the work, I’m just the presenter. It is they who are exposed to famine and storms, thunder and torrential rain. But I had the skills to help them and I thought that was nice.
The autumn season of “Robinson” premieres on October 9 on TV4 and C More. Another season with Anders Lundin as host will be broadcast this spring.
