Formula 1: Now it's official!  Sebastian Vettel will climb into the cockpit in 2023

Six races to go and then the season will be over formula 1 over – and the premier class career of Sebastian Vettel.

The four-time world champion formula 1 will retire at the end of the season. But the fans will not have to do without the Heppenheimer entirely.

Because Sebastian Vettel will also take part in the “Race of Champions” (ROC) in 2023, the ROC announced on its website on Wednesday (September 14).

This is Sebastian Vettel:

  • Born on July 3, 1987 in Heppenheim.
  • Vettel’s home kart track was the Erftlandring. Michael Schumacher had previously made his first driving tests in motorsport there.
  • In 2007 Vettel made the leap into Formula 1, where he initially competed for BMW Sauber and Toro Rosso.
  • In 2009 he switched to Red Bull. There he celebrated four world championship titles in a row from 2010 to 2013.
  • In 2015 Vettel went to Ferrari. With the Scuderia, however, he was denied the big hit.
  • He has been driving for Aston Martin (formerly Racing Point) since 2021.

From January 28th to 29th, 2023, the cult event will be held on the northern Swedish route Pite Havsbad. Racing drivers compete on snow and ice.

“I can’t think of a better place for my first race after retiring from Formula 1 than the ‘Race of Champions’. It will be my eleventh race and I keep coming back because it’s a special event and so much fun,” says Sebastian Vettel happily.

And the four-time world champion continued: “I don’t have much experience of racing on snow and ice, so I had to go through a steep learning curve this year in Sweden – and it was a very pleasant surprise to reach the individual final against Sébastien Loeb. Now I can’t wait to come back and give ROC Ice Racing another try and hopefully help Team Germany to another ROC Nations Cup title.”

But the Heppenheimer is not the only F1 champion who will be there. McLaren double world champion Mika Häkkinen is also at the start. There are also rally drivers like Petter Solberg, Oliver Solberg and four-time WRX world champion Johan Kristoffersson. W-Series champion Jamie Chadwick has also announced her participation.
