In a conversation with Radioanalysis, the mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue (PC), referred to the tenth version of the Thousand Guitars tribute to Víctor Jara, organized by the Recoleta Culture Corporation, together with the municipality of the commune and which has the support of the Víctor Jara Foundation and the Seremi of Arts, Cultures and Heritage.

The activity will be broadcast live by Radio Universidad de Chile next Saturday, October 1 from 7:30 p.m. In this regard, the mayor maintained that the celebration of this act is a source of pride for Recoleta, who has been in the community for 10 years.

“This was consolidated until it became a tradition, an act of love. We also consider that it is an act of symbolic reparation for all that Víctor, his family and his friends suffered. It is an act of memory, reparation, truth and justiceJadue said.

In this sense, the authority maintained that the memory of Víctor Jara not only represents his facet as an artist, but also the story of how the musician’s life ended. Jadue said that over the years more collaborators have been incorporated into the project, as well as innovations in the event. “This is the first year that it has been done with a citizen choir that has more than 200 registered, there are more than 600 guitars registered. It’s been more than 5 thousand popular guitarists who even come from outside the country and come from all regions of Chile“, he exposed.

Asked about the importance of this event in the framework of the return to face-to-face meetings after two years of pandemic, the mayor indicated that the Municipality of Recoleta has already been encouraging face-to-face reunions with different cultural instances. Because according to the authority, “the country needs to meet again.” In addition, he expressed the relevance of the population being able to look each other in the face again in the current context.

“I think it is very relevant that these spaces are created where tangible and intangible heritage is valued, because we do it in Plaza La Paz for a reason. There is an important architectural urban heritage there,” said Jadue.

The representative of Recoleta pointed out that within the innovations of the Thousand Guitars tribute to Víctor Jara this year, the expansion of the repertoire of songs is contemplated. 21 of the composer’s most popular works will be performed, since precisely this year his 90th birthday is also commemorated. That is why the intention of this event is to praise the impact of the social transformations generated by his music.

“Víctor is one of those artists who accustomed us for many decades to being at the forefront of social transformations (…) An idea that costs us politicians 500 speeches to try to incorporate, andThey incorporate it into the collective imagination of popular culture with a song“, he highlighted.

Thus, the mayor of Recoleta stressed that the popular composer left an important legacy to the “people of Chile”, from his militancy and his vocation for popular causes, which is what they try to express and value in this tenth anniversary of the Thousand Guitars for Victor Jara.
