Krefeld – Thursday, September 22, 2022, 1:51 p.m
Austria’s national ice hockey team has fixed its program for the November break.
From November 10th to 13th, Austria will compete in the Germany Cup for the very first time. At the 33rd edition of the traditional tournament, ÖEHV team boss Roger Bader’s squad will meet hosts Germany, Slovakia and Denmark in Krefeld.
The Germany Cup took place for the first time in 1987, and since then top nations such as Canada, Russia, the USA and Sweden have followed the invitation of the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB). The game has been played in Krefeld since 2018 and this year for the first time with the red-white-red selection.
Team boss Bader is happy: “This invitation is a proof and a reward for our achievements in the past years. Initial discussions about participation were already held in the run-up to the World Cup. With our performance in the last test match against Germany in Schwenningen before the World Cup and the Results at the World Cup itself were more than just a recommendation. With Slovakia, Germany and Denmark, we are playing number eight, nine and ten in the world rankings. These are enormously valuable matches at the top level for us.”
On November 10, Austria will open the tournament with the game against Slovakia (4:15 p.m.). Two days later there is a meeting with Germany (6 p.m.), before the ÖEHV team has to play Denmark on November 13 at 11 a.m.
