– In a speech to the Nation on the occasion of the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the independence of Mali.
The President of the Transition in Mali, Colonel Assimi Goïta called, on Wednesday evening, the Malians “not to succumb to the demons of division”. This is what emerges from a speech to the Nation on the occasion of the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the independence of Mali (September 22, 1960), placed under the sign of “Union in regained sovereignty”.
“Mali is at a decisive phase in its history. Now is not the time to succumb to the demons of division, despite manipulative actions and false media campaigns with subversive intent, aimed at undermining the morale of our valiant soldiers and creating confusion among our people.” he declared before emphasizing: “Remember, union has always allowed us to triumph over adversity, while division has given our enemies the possibility of having victory over us”.
Colonel Assimi Goïta added: “Sixty-two years ago, the founding fathers of Mali celebrated, in communion with the people, the accession of our country to national and international sovereignty. This historic event that we in turn dedicate is a civic meeting to which every Malian and Malian must attach the utmost importance, because it is the day of remembrance of our regained dignity after a long period of colonial domination”.
It is for this reason, he said, that we place this 62nd anniversary under the sign of “Union in regained sovereignty”.
Goïta hailed the people of Mali for their resilience in the face of the sanctions imposed on Mali by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)
“I am pleased to salute, once again, the resilience of the brave Malian people who, with the greatest dignity, have endured the difficulties and inconveniences caused by this situation. These sanctions, combined with other factors, have caused an increase in the cost of living which has affected the entire population, but more particularly the vulnerable strata. It is fortunate that we have all realized that this is the price to pay to achieve our medium and long-term objectives,” he said.
