With 394 days to go before the 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games, which will be held in the country’s capital, the Governor of the Metropolitan Region, Claudio Orrego, met with the different municipal authorities of the 13 communes that will host the competitions.

The Pan American Games will begin on Friday, October 20, and will end on Sunday, November 5, 2023, while the Parapan American Games will be between November 17 and 26 of the same year.

At the end of the meeting, Orrego called on all citizens to be part of this event so that it becomes “the great party of the city”, not only to support high-performance sports, but also for Chile to encourage the culture of activity physics, than sport be transformative of life habits and help create healthier and happier spaces in the national territory.

The regional government will invest 4 billion pesos in this sporting event. “To create activations, decorate the city, make investments and most importantly, make these the most massive Pan American and Parapan American Games in history in terms of public influx,” Orrego said.

In the instance, the mayor of Peñalolén, Carolina Leitao, spoke on behalf of the mayors who lead the communes that will host the competitions. Leitao stated that all municipalities should take advantage of this opportunity to hold meetings and activate the community.

In that sense, he pointed out the benefits that the Pan American and Parapan American Games represent with respect to the encouragement of tourism, entrepreneurship and activities around culture. “It is very important for our communes to take advantage of this opportunity to make this activation to be able to make investments in nearby places (…). And the most important thing is to relieve sport, in this case of high performance, “said the mayor. In addition, she mentioned the importance of this event for children and young people, in terms of the sports references they will have from the games.

Likewise, Gustavo San Martín, representative of the Santiago 2023 Board of Directors, thanked the regional authorities for their participation and coordination in organizing this great sporting event, and He highlighted the values ​​that he will leave in the citizenship, as well as the contributions in the infrastructure of the capital.

“The intangible legacy that is the unity of the society of all Chileans around this event, whether as volunteers, participating, going to the stages and really feeling the warmth of the population,” said San Martín.

On the other hand, the efforts to carry out these games in Chile began months ago, recently the executive director of the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games, Gianna Cunazza, participated in a forum on disability and sports in New York, within the framework of an event organized by the Development Bank of Latin America.

The event served to highlight the launch of a pilot project to be carried out in the Chilean capital that will measure the impact of parasports on the inclusion and quality of life of people with disabilities.
