The French Cycling Federation (FFC) has put an end to the speculation about Benoît Cosnefroy. The AG2R-Citroën rider will indeed drive the road race at the World Cycling Championships in Wollongong, Australia on Sunday. He replaces Rémi Cavagna (Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl) in the French squad.
The 26-year-old Cosnefroy drove two weeks ago to a great victory in the GP of Québec (WorldTour). The surprise was therefore great when it turned out that he would not travel to the World Cup in Australia.
Cosnefroy had already communicated his decision to national coach Thomas Voeckler in June and did not seem to want to go back on it after his victory in Canada.
Voeckler managed to persuade the puncher last week and he boarded a plane to Australia on Sunday.
