Now fix it: FC Zurich throws Franco Foda out

Zurich – Wednesday, September 21, 2022, 10:55 a.m

It’s over, it’s over!

Despite perseverance slogans and denials, FC Zurich is now rowing back and announcing the immediate separation from Franco Foda. As the Swiss announce, the contract, which was dated June 30, 2024, will be terminated.

The contracts with the assistant coaches Thomas Kristl and Imre Szabics, who have been associated with Foda for years, will also be terminated. It was not until the beginning of July that the ex-ÖFB team boss took over as coach at the Swiss first division team, which sensationally and superiorly became champions last season.

After only two and a half months, a line has now been drawn. Because the current reality looks bleak. With zero wins from eight games, two draws and six defeats, Zurich is second to last in the table and a few days ago they made a fool of themselves in the cup, where they lost to the Swiss second division club Lausanne.

Club President Ancillo Canepa says: “I really regret this separation. Unfortunately, the results in the championship and in the Swiss Cup did not live up to expectations.”
