The former president of the United States, donald trumpand three of his children were sued for fraud this Wednesday in a civil investigation into his business practices.
The lawsuit, filed in a New York state court in Manhattan, accused the Trump Organization of committing “numerous acts of fraud and misrepresentation” in the preparation of Trump’s annual financial statements between 2011 and 2021. It also named as defendants the Trump Organization, the former president’s son, Donald Trump Jr. and his daughter Ivanka Trump.
Attorney General Letitia James’ investigation has focused on whether the company misrepresented its real estate values for tax benefits. James uncovered “significant evidence” that Trump and company fraudulently valued many of its assets.

The former Republican president has denied any wrongdoing and has called the James investigation a politically motivated witch hunt. James is a Democrat. The Trump Organization has called James’ accusations “baseless.”
Wednesday’s lawsuit followed a contentious investigation in which James accused Trump, his company and members of his family of using delaying tactics to ignore citations and avoid testifying.
On August 10, Trump refused to answer questions in a lengthy closed-door statement at the attorney general’s office, invoking his constitutional right against self-incrimination more than 400 times.
Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump agreed to sit down to testify only after court decisions required it. Another of Trump’s sons, Eric Trump, invoked the right against self-incrimination more than 500 times in a 2020 statement.
