Lewandowski longs for Ballon d'Or

Robert Lewandowski was only beaten by Lionel Messi in last season’s Ballon d’Or awards. As a consolation, the Bayern player at the time was named FIFA World Player of the Year for the second time.

This time, the Polish star striker sees his chances of winning the prestigious award much better. The 34-year-old cites the move to FC Barcelona as the main reason.

At the Poland national team’s press conference, Lewandowski describes his perspective on a possible win as follows: “I know that FC Barcelona is the club with the most players who have won the Ballon d’Or. I believe that the way to the Ballon d’Or is shorter at Barca than at Bayern”.

In fact, the Pole is partially right in his statement: a player from the “Blaugrana” has been named Ballon d’Or winner 15 times. Barca legend Lionel Messi alone has seven titles.

In his first eight competitive games for the Catalans, the Pole scored a remarkable eleven goals. If this trend continues and FC Barcelona wins one or two titles, then the star striker can have legitimate hopes of winning the “golden ball”.
