“In the last winter season, 2021-2022, 48 cold fronts were registered. For this 2022-2023 season, the arrival of 51 frontal systems is forecast,” reported Alejandra Méndez, general coordinator of the National Meteorological Service:

The cold fronts are extremely cold polar continental air masses that come from Canada and the United States and enter through the north of the country, which causes drops in temperature and frost in the northern and central states, while on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico can cause intense winds and high waves.

The winds they cause can exceed 100 kilometers per hour.

“Climatologically, the states that register the greatest decreases in temperatures are Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas, Tlaxcala, the State of Mexico, Puebla and Mexico City; for the central states, minimum temperatures are expected to be between 2°C and 8°C”, indicated Alejandra Méndez, general coordinator of the National Meteorological Service.

the season of cold frontsaccording to the forecast, will start on the afternoon of Sunday, September 25, and coincides with the tropical cyclone season, so extreme precautions must be taken on these dates.

Two are planned for this month of September and will end in May.

“51 cold fronts are forecast that will be affecting the Mexican Republic. In the month of September, the presence of two cold fronts is expected, October five, November six, December eight, January nine, February seven, March seven, April six, May one,” said Alejandra Méndez, general coordinator of the National Meteorological Service.

The authorities assure that they have the necessary provisions to face the challenges that the winter season and the convergence between summer and autumn may generate in the country.
