fans from Dortmund Zoo must be very strong now. Because a popular resident has left the zoo.
Actually he had Dortmund Zoo worked out a completely different plan for him – but after the stroke of fate in another zoo, everything turns out very differently.
Zoo Dortmund lets visitor’s darling go
Flatland tapir Kuni is 28 years old – pretty impressive considering that wild specimens don’t live much longer than 25 years. Most recently, the Dortmund Zoo had designed part of the former rhino enclosure for Kuni to be suitable for seniors.
But there is a lot of renovation work going on here – the tapir grandpa’s enclosure should be eliminated. There was a move behind the scenes. But instead, it’s now going to the Saarbrücken Zoo. In doing so, Kuni is following an old acquaintance.
Zoo Dortmund says goodbye to tapir: “It’s not easy for us”
In Saarbrücken, Kuni’s younger brother Bruno had only lived for a few weeks. But he recently died – and left a vacant place for Kuni.
Even if Dortmund Zoo would have liked to keep its elderly tapir, “we would not want to deny him this opportunity to spend a nice old age in Saarbrücken Zoo together with the female flatland tapir Sira,” says a statement.
More reports from Dortmund Zoo:
“It’s not easy for us to say goodbye to Kuni and we will miss the gentle tapir grandpa and his nice and open-minded manner very much,” Dortmund Zoo said – a feeling shared by many Dortmund Zoo fans:
- Oh, I will miss the videos with Kuni, but the fact that he gets to spend his old age with a lady comforts me a little.
- On the one hand, I find that very sad, because I loved watching Grandpa Kuni feeding. On the other hand, it’s nice for Grandpa Kuni to have a partner again.
- That hurts. Dear Opi, take care. All the best and many more beautiful, exciting, exciting and happy years.
