US President Joe Biden will nominate Lynn Tracy for the post of US Ambassador to Russia. This was reported on the website of the White House.

Tracy is a career member of the US Foreign Service. She now holds the post of US Ambassador to Armenia, and in 2014-2017 she was Deputy US Ambassador to Moscow. Tracy also worked at the American embassies in Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Turkmenistan.

Tracy’s candidacy must be approved by the US Senate, and then by the Russian government. If this happens, Tracy will become the first woman to serve as US ambassador to Moscow.

Earlier, the media reported that the White House would nominate Tracy as a candidate for this post, in particular, “Kommersant” and CNN. At the same time, both publications noted that the procedure for appointing a new ambassador could be delayed against the backdrop of a confrontation between Russia and the United States.

The previous US ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan, left his post in early September. Cause he named wife’s illness.

Sullivan headed the US Embassy in Moscow for nearly three years. Following his departure, the US Embassy’s chargé d’affaires is being filled by Elizabeth Rude, Deputy Chief of Mission of the US to Russia.
