For a season now it has been very difficult to find a cinematographic course without its portion —sometimes double or triple— of musical biopics. This 2022, in addition to the celebrated ‘Elvis’ by Baz Luhrmann, our movie theaters will receive ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’; the feature film that will celebrate the life and work of the iconic Whitney Houston and whose trailer you can see below.
Don’t stop the musical biopics
In addition to offering us a good mixtape Featuring the artist’s greatest hits, the film promises to take a journey through Houston’s life, focusing especially on his rise in the music industry. It remains to be seen if the production will delve into the darker and harsher passages of his biography, but the tone of the trailer seems to suggest otherwise.
‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’, written by Anthony McCarten —who already cultivated the genre in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’—, is directed by Kasi Lemmonsresponsible for ‘Harriet: In Search of Freedom’ or ‘Eve’s Bayou’ who took his first steps in the industry in front of the cameras, participating in films like ‘Candyman’ or ‘The Silence of the Lambs’.
For its part, Naomi Ackie has been in charge of putting herself in the shoes of Whitney Houston and lead a cast completed by names such as Stanley Tucci, Tamara Tunie, Clarke Peters or Ashton Sanders; the latter in the role of the also musician and husband of the artist Bobby Brown.
‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ will hit theaters on December 21 of this same 2022 to liven up the Christmas campaign.
