The sale of Imserso trips begins: 816,029 seats and fewer hotels on the coast

The sale of Imserso trips starts this Tuesday, September 20. In total, we are talking about 816,029 places that are offered to travel between October 2022 and May 2023, but with the risk of not covering all the places due to the lack of hotels in the coastal area.

The sale starts this Tuesday for people accredited by Imserso residing in Andalusia, Cantabria, Catalonia, Valencia, Extremadura, Madrid, Murcia and Melilla they will be able to book their trips in the agencies of their respective autonomous communities.

Next Thursday will be the turn of the residents of Asturias, Aragón, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, La Rioja, Navarra, the Basque Country and Ceuta.

The prices for this new season will range between 115 euros for a stay of 4 days and 3 nights in an inland capital and 455 euros for stays of 10 days (9 nights) in the peninsular coastal area or the Balearic Islands.

For the 2022/2023 season, the application submission period began on June 27, 2022 and ended on July 19. Pensioners and companions who have been accredited to aspire to one of these places have registered a record figure of 2.6 million accreditations.

The big problem this year is that many hotels, especially on the coast, have given up participating in the social program because with inflation they don’t cover costs.

They denounce the low prices paid per room. Each hotel that participates in the program receives 22 euros net per room and full board. An amount that does not serve to compensate the high expenses that many hotels bear due to the soaring inflation (energy, food…).

Benefits for the State

Public coffers also benefit from this program. It is estimated that For every euro that the Government invests in Imserso trips, it receives 1.56 euros. This benefit is achieved thanks to the fact that these trips favor the creation and maintenance of employment in the tourism sector.

Without these trips, many workers in these establishments would end up unemployed, for which they would have to collect an unemployment pension from the State. Thus, the Government continues to collect VAT, corporate income tax and personal income tax and saves on unemployment payments.
