Russia urged to popularize secondary engineering education

Member of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Pavel Krupnik called for the launch of a federal program or project, the purpose of which would be to popularize among young people the acquisition of secondary engineering and technical education. A copy of the appeal addressed to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is available to RT.

According to the deputy, the government is currently doing everything to ensure that the period of “technological volatility” passes our country as soon as possible.

He added that programs have been created and implemented to attract scientists, high-class engineers, programmers, and microelectronics specialists to work.

“Meanwhile, the country also needs mid-level engineering specialists, on whose shoulders the task of implementing many projects developed by domestic science will lie: qualified technologists, welders, shipbuilders, turners, millers, foundry workers, high-class workers,” the interlocutor of RT explained.

He said that different regions have their own programs to attract young people to receive secondary engineering education.

For example, in St. Petersburg, this practice has been operating for several years, which is yielding positive results, but at the level of the whole of Russia, unfortunately, there is no such program yet, the deputy said.

“I ask you to consider the possibility of launching a federal program or project, the purpose of which will be to popularize the acquisition of secondary engineering and technical education among young people,” the text of the appeal says.

In his opinion, such a program, formed with the support of the government and built on the basis of domestic scientific potential, will become a factor in building an economy capable of “maximizing the replacement of foreign production dependence.”

Earlier, Krupnik proposed to formalize the celebration of the Day of the Mushroom Picker, which is celebrated informally around the world on October 3, as well as to establish the All-Russian Festival of Mushrooms and Berries.
