Putin expressed hope for the improvement of relations between Russia and Portugal

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed hope that eventually Russian-Portuguese relations would improve.

“Now, for well-known reasons, bilateral political and economic dialogue and cooperation have been suspended. We regret this and are confident that the situation will eventually improve, ”leads RIA News his words at the presentation of his credentials.

Putin recalled that for many years relations between Russia and Portugal had been diverse and mutually beneficial.

According to the Público newspaper, after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, Portugal refused to issue “golden visas” to Russians.

On September 12, the European Union suspended the visa facilitation agreement with Russia, which had been in effect since 2007. And the European Commission (EC) recommended that EU countries check all recipients and holders of Schengen visas from Russia for a “security threat” to the European Union.

As reported on the ATOR website, the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark and Belgium no longer accept documents for tourist visas from Russians.
