Nutritionist Apletaeva noted the benefits of chicory for diabetics

Dietitian, allergist-immunologist Marina Apletaeva advised diabetics and people suffering from problems with the gastrointestinal tract to include chicory in their diet.

“I would recommend chicory to people with high blood sugar, diabetes, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, malabsorption, impaired intestinal microflora,” the expert said in an interview with Moscow 24.

Chicory contains inulin, a substance that lowers blood sugar levels. In addition, according to Apletaeva, chicory does not irritate the gastrointestinal tract and has a good effect on its microflora.

However, it is better to refuse chicory if you have an allergy or individual intolerance, the doctor concluded.

Earlier, Professor Ekaterina Krivtsova, general practitioner, PhD, nutritionist, endocrinologist at the MirA Medical Center, in an interview with URA.RU said that sleeping on an empty stomach can lead to inflammation of the esophagus and sleep apnea.
