The French lawyers of Moustapha Ben Barka, temporarily imprisoned in France on Monday on a Malian arrest warrant before being released, denounced on Thursday “the judicial state terrorism in which the Malian authorities are engaged. »

Me Marcel Ceccaldi and Dominique Inchauspé “commit Interpol”, which according to them had issued a red notice, “to more discernment in the exercise of its functions when the organization is asked to act by States which place themselves on the margins of international rules”.

“Arbitrariness of the procedure”

Moustapha Ben Barka, vice-president of the West African Development Bank (BOAD), was arrested at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport while he was the subject of an international arrest warrant. issued by the Malian authorities, within the framework of the case of the acquisition of the presidential plane under the IBK regime, during which he notably exercised the functions of Minister of Industry and Secretary General of the Presidency.

He had been placed in judicial detention, separate from police custody because he is not suspected of an offense committed in France, before being released the next day following a “decision” by the French courts “not to continue the extradition procedure, which had been initiated following a request made by the Malian authorities”, according to a judicial source.

“The absence of any factual and legal basis for the arrest warrant, the obvious violation of Moustapha Ben Barka’s individual freedom, the arbitrary nature of this procedure are at the origin of this release”, according to his lawyers. .
