Diesel prices fell by around 6.6 cents per liter this Monday, with gasoline prices almost unchanged. These were the forecasts reported on Friday by CNN Portugal, after consulting market sources.
O simple diesel fell by 6.3 cents per liter compared to the previous Monday, for an average price charged in mainland Portugal of 1.76 euros. already the special diesel was cheaper by 7 cents per liter, to 1,784 euros. These are the lowest average prices since August 22, about a month ago.
The data are from the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology, which publishes them daily on its website, always with information from the day before.
According to the same source, the four most sold gasolines in Portugal (95 and 98, simple and special) all fell only slightly, less than one cent per litre.
Here are the average prices charged in mainland Portugal this Monday:
These prices also result from the lower tax burden on fuel, in force since May and guaranteed at least until the end of this year. Otherwise, diesel would be around 28.2 cents more expensive per liter and gasoline would cost 32.1 cents more per liter. In that case, all fuels would currently cost more than two euros per litre.
The temporary decrease in the tax therefore reduces the difference in prices compared to those prevailing before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on 24 February this year.
It appears, therefore, that 95 gasoline is about 12 cents cheaper than it was before the start of the war, with 98 gasoline about two cents cheaper.
Diesel, however, remains above the price before the Russian invasion: it is about 10 cents higher at the moment. Three months ago, towards the end of June, they were about 45 cents more expensive – and taxes had already dropped. Otherwise, the record for a liter of diesel would have skipped the 2.4 euros per liter of average price in Portugal.
