The Vesna movement called on Russian servicemen to refuse to participate in the war or to surrender before it becomes a criminal offense. The corresponding appeal was published on the Vesna website.
Right now, the State Duma urgently adopted a law amending the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. It introduces criminal liability for the military for voluntary surrender, unauthorized abandonment of the unit and failure to comply with orders.
Tomorrow, September 21, the law approve Council of the Federation. It is likely that on the same day it will get signed by Putin – and then officially enter into force. This will radically change the situation for the military, who do not want to participate in the “special operation.” <…>
The Vesna movement noted that the adopted amendments will affect not only the military who are already in Ukraine, but also those who are still in military units on Russian territory and who are being prepared to be sent to the conflict zone.
We call on the Russian military in units and at the front to refuse to participate in the “special operation” or to surrender as soon as possible. Most likely, this is your last chance – and you need to use it in the next day.
Viasna’s website claims that the appeal was signed by 12 other movements opposed to the war. Among them are Feminist Anti-War Resistance, Anti-War Sick Leave, Anti-Propaganda and others.
